BancoEstado sets out relief measures for victims in affect regions and the rest of the country

Santiago - 03/05/2010

Customers who have insurance related to mortgage loans have 90 days to claim damages, either directly at branches, or by telephone, and soon online.

In order to assist Chileans affected by the recent earthquake, BancoEstado has continued its duties focus on reopening the offices damaged and implementing more services, which are regularly updated on its website. “We are working hard to quickly open the branches that still have problems. As specific situations are solved, services have been normalized at the different bank offices, ServiEstado, Caja Vecina points and ATMs,” announced José Luis Mardones, Chairman of BancoEstado.

“We will assist all our customers affected by the earthquake, in any region of the country,” Mr. Mardones stated. “All our mortgage customers have earthquake insurance, across the country. We will also give respite to people and small businesses, by postponing loan payments. In the regions of Maule and Bio Bio, it has already been activated automatically. For those affected in the rest of the country, it will operate swiftly, once you have contacted your local branch.”

In the regions of Maule and Bío Bío mortgage payments have already been postponed automatically for six months, and sixty days for consumer and student loans, and credit card payments. Furthermore, commercial loans to micro and small businesses have also been postponed for two months. It is important to note that those who wish to continue making their monthly payments may continue as normal.

For customers in the O’Higgins region and in the other earthquake affected regions, BancoEstado announced that they can go to branch offices to analyse their situation and rescheduling needs of their obligations. If their regular branch is still not operating, they may go to any local branch.

Furthermore, Mr. Mardones underlined that if customers had completed their loans payments in September 2009 or afterwards, they have the same insurance coverage; this coverage includes household equipment and alternative rented housing.

Damage claims may be filed at BancoEstado branches or by calling: 600 660 1212. More detailed information available about this service on the website www.bancoestado.cl. The period of time to file a claim is extensive, 90 days starting from the day of the catastrophe.
