In 1995, one of the biggest and most reliable financial institutions in Chile took a decisive step in the context of microcredits and microfinancing. Toward the end of XX century, BancoEstado launched the Specialized Program for Microenterprises. This subsidiary with a strategic role would impact the bank and the future of thousands of enterprising families.

Under the name BancoEstado Microempresas , and inspired by the institutional mission to generate equal opportunities for all Chileans to have access to financial services, the program was the answer to the microenterprise sectors, that until then had been marginalized from the financial system.

When the first specialized platform was launched in March 1996, BancoEstado was starting a new chapter in its long history as a public financial institution. Its decisive social role, with events that had been milestones in the mortgage credit and savings area nationwide, was now targeting microenterprises, for people who had already started their own business, and therefore increasing their options within the financial market.

This subsidiary is the leader in providing services to microenterprises; it has 120 Specialized Platforms nationwide, currently serving more than 160 thousand customers.
